Starseeker – gazing from Mauao

What do you do when you at the summit of Mount Maunganui and have it to yourself.

This is what photographer Amit Kamble pondered as he completed his 22nd run up Mount Maunganui as part of the Everest Challenge.

Amit Kamble took this photo while at the summit of the Mount. See the photo in full below.

'No people to distract and have the beautiful view of Tauranga city just to yourself.

'(I) took heaps of shots from around the summit.”

Amit's favourite shot - titled Starseeker - is one of him standing at the top with the milkyway shining brightly over the light polluted city.

'(It) shows how the stars triumph over artificially created light.

'The light from the ground is strong enough to reach few hundred meters in the sky but the light from the stars, although weak and far away, is strong enough to illuminate the dark sky and overpower the ones below,” explains Amit.

'Soon, the lights below will get stronger and we will lose the beauty of the night sky. We have to start lighting right to keep the skies filled with star for the future generation.”

Exif: 20sec, f2.8, ISO 800, Samyang 24mm On Canon 6D – specs of the equipment Amit used to take the photo.
