'Reactions' unleashed on Facebook

Like many relationships, there's a point after a while when the other party decides it's time for some changes – major, minor, just because.

Facebook's done it. Extending its emotional range of response from ‘like' ‘comment' and ‘share' to include Love, Haha, wow, Sad and Angry.

Facebook users now have more choice in expressing their opinions on a post.

Called Reactions, the social network rolls out the extension of the ‘like' button today. The buttons appear on desktops when users hover over the "Like" button.

The launch follows a pilot in Ireland and Spain in October.

Facebook will use "Reactions" to track user behaviour and for ad delivery.

"We will initially use any Reaction similar to a Like to infer that you want to see more of that type of content," says Facebook.

Over time the social media network hopes to learn how different "Reactions" should be weighted differently by the Facebook News Feed to customise it for individual users.

"Reactions" will have the same impact on ad delivery as "Likes".
