A man is in a serious condition in Tauranga Hospital after a crash between a car and truck on State Highway 29, yesterday.

Head of Western Bay of Plenty road policing Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says emergency services were called at 2.14pm yesterday after a car turning right out of Pori Pori Rd and a heavy truck and trailer unit heading towards Tauranga crashed.

Ian says four people from the car were taken to Tauranga Hospital from the scene.

The 21-year-old male driver was in the intensive care unit. The three passengers, males from Tauranga, were all in a stable condition.

Ian says the truck driver was not injured in the crash and a serious crash unit are investigating the cause of the crash.
