What‘s on - Polar plunge, dunes and markets

Enthusiastic entrants taking a quick dip in last year's Papamoa Polar Plunge

Kia ora and welcome to a fine winter Sunday.

Expect cloudy periods with the odd shower today, and northeasterlies from the afternoon. It's a three-layer-clothing day, with an expected high of 16 degrees and an overnight low of 10 degrees.

From Monday through to Wednesday, the weather forecast is for drizzle, rain and showers with westerlies developing.

Come along to a sausage sizzle and bake sale and be in the draw to win $50 at Bunnings this morning to support Wild Whiskers Tauranga, a local charitable trust which is raising much needed money to TNR (trap, neuter, return) wild cats throughout Tauranga and surroundings areas. Their volunteers are looking forward to seeing you so head on down, grab some yummies, be in the draw to win $50 and support one of your local wild cat rescue organisations. More information here

Check out the popular Oropi Sunday Market, held at the Oropi Memorial Hall and Community Centre, 1296 Oropi Rd. A ‘boutique' market, the Oropi Sunday Market is held on the last Sunday of each month from 9am – 1pm and features a good variety of arts and crafts, fresh produce and other goodies

Come along and help with at the Dune Planting Day at Papamoa Beach, Waihi Beach and and Hosted by Coast Care Bay of Plenty and Bay of Plenty Regional Council, both of these run from 10am – 12pm.

For the Papamoa Beach Dune Planting meet on Papamoa Beach Rd, approximately 400m from the Papamoa Domain heading east. Look out for the Coast Care flag. All you need to bring is covered sturdy footwear, clothing suitable for gardening & gardening gloves.

For the Waihi Beach Dune Planting meet at the Surf Club car park at Waihi Beach and look out for the Coast Care flag.

The Papamoa Polar Plunge is on today from 10am – 1pm. It's the 5th anniversary of the Papamoa Polar Plunge and they are taking it up a notch. There are three main prizes this year - $1000, $500 and $250, plus tonnes of spot prizes. Join Papamoa Unlimited, Onewave NZ, Proactive Four Corners of Health, Papamoa Surf Life Savers and The EDGE on the Papamoa domain as they take the plunge to raise funds for local community groups from the Tauranga area. Entry into the Papamoa Polar Plunge is by gold coin and registrations open at the Papamoa domain at 10am. Your registration gives you one vote for your favourite local non-profit organisation. If your name is drawn, your nominated organisation will win one of three prizes $1000, $500 or $250.

Also at Papamoa is the Papamoa Lions Club Market from 8am – 12pm at the Gordon Spratt Reserve in Alice Lane. Come along and learn how to prune and care for your fruit trees. More information here

Décor Gardenworld are hosting a free fruit tree care demo with Ginny Clark from 1.30pm – 2.30pm today at 165 Moffat Rd, Bethlehem.

Crop Swap Tauranga is having a swap of crops and seeds at Our Place Tauranga this morning from 9am – 10am. Crop Swap Tauranga City happens on the fourth Sunday of each month. Bring along a little of what you might have in your garden to share. Home produce such as seeds, seedlings, fruit, chutneys, jams, baking, and even home made crafts. More information here

Our Place Tauranga and the Tauranga City Council have a Peace Day Exhibition at Our Place Tauranga in Willow St to commemorate 100 years since peace celebrations were held throughout NZ in July 1919. Come down and check it out. More here

Shamika Hoeta, a rising country music talent, will be guest artist at the Mount Maunganui Returned Services Country Music Club event today from 1pm – 3.30pm at the Mount Maunganui RSA. Entry is free.

At the Tauranga Historic Village is the exhibition ‘Tohorā Iti – Small whale', an installation by Elizabeth Haider at the Incubator Creative Hub. The exhibition opens at 9am. For more information click here
