A broken pump that provides water to Ōmokoroa and Te Puna communities may lead to water shortages and low pressure over the next 24 hours.
"All homes in the Ōmokoroa and Te Puna area need to immediately shift to essential water use only until advised otherwise," says a Western Bay of Plenty Council spokesperson.
"Technicians will continue working through the night to replace the pump but water may run low overnight and not be restored until later on Wednesday 9 February."
A post on the council's Facebook page states that a replacement pump for the water production bore for for Ōmokoroa to Te Puna was being installed on Tuesday morning, and initially was expected to be completed later in the afternoon but now won't be completed until Wednesday.
Earlier on Tuesday council staff didn't expected the water supply to be affected by the breakdown "but it could be tight".
A request was made that people please conserve as much water as possible until the pump is replaced.
"Council apologises for any inconvenience."
Council will make water available at designated spots on Wednesday morning if water supply runs out. These designated spots will be posted on the Council website.

A broken pump?!

How can this even be allowed to happen? No alternative routing? A critical pump that serves a community and it is not backed up? I find this unbelievable and the community should require an explanation.

What the hell is a water production bore? Sounds very unsanitary! Where exactly does Omokoroa and Te Puna get their water from? Where can I find out this info about where this water comes from? Anyone? A serious announcement like that and no one questions it! Very disinterested communities.
