Further slips "are to be expected" for Coromandel residents tonight, as severe weather is set to hammer the region.
A Waka Kotahi spokesperson says the level of rain expected "tonight and tomorrow morning" will likely cause further damage to the roads.
They also warn against any unnecessary travel in the area.
"We have contractors patrolling the highways who will respond as quickly as possible to clear roads of slips, providing it is safe to do so."
For SH25A, Waka Kotahi says contractors are working on "a long-term fix" in a post to Facebook.
"The site is still active, with road material, earth, and debris continuing to fall into the gully. We're working through solutions for a long-term fix. As soon as the weather allows, our teams will continue geotechnical assessments to determine the best way of rebuilding the road. Please bear with us while we're still in the emergency response phase of this storm," the post reads.
