Prime Minister Chris Hipkins describes the Maungatapu house crushed by a slip as 'without a doubt one of the most horrific and traumatic things” he's ever seen.
The house, located on Egret Ave, was pushed out into the middle of their street after a slip caused by heavy rain in the early hours of January 27.
The Prime Minister made the visit to the weather impacted area this afternoon.
'It's a miracle no one was seriously hurt,” says Hipkins.
One of the owners of the home, Luke Hanan, tells the Prime Minister the surrounding community have been extremely generous with lending help.

'The community here has been amazing. They have treated us like family,” says Luke.
'It's the sort of stuff that makes you proud to be a Kiwi.”
Hipkins likens the community spirit in Maungatapu to stories he has heard out of Auckland following the floods.

'I've seen stories of how people have helped each other in Auckland too, and going the extra mile to help their neighbours.”
Surveying the damage from a nearby property the Prime Minister says it would have been a 'very dramatic” evening.
'The fact you all got out is absolutely amazing.”
'I'm very glad you're all still here.”

Earlier in the day, Hipkins told reporters the Government is 'always keeping an eye on weather across the country”.
'We do expect there are going to be more extreme weather events and we all need to be prepared for that."

'As a Government, we are making sure we are ready to respond quickly, when called upon to do so.
'My message to New Zealand everywhere is that this is something we are going to see more of. We want families and businesses to be prepared everywhere.
'We want you to have your emergency supplies ready, and have a plan of a flood in your neighborhood, along with other extreme events in your neighborhood.”
The Prime Minister also told reporters Tauranga is a city facing a 'number of challenges with infrastructure” due to 'rapid population growth”.
