Good morning and welcome to Saturday. Ko te ra tenei i hanga e te Ariki. Ka koa tatou, ka koa hoki ki reira.

MetService is forecasting cloud increasing throughout the day, with easterlies, and a shower possible this evening.

It's a one-layer clothing day with an expected high of 23 degrees, and an overnight low of 17 degrees. High tide is at 11.57am and low tide is at 6.07pm. Sunset is at 8.19pm.

Are you ready for the storm?

People are being urged to start to prepare as Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle is likely to impact northern parts of New Zealand on Sunday. Today is a good day to prepare, making the most of Saturday's fine weather. GetReady.govt.nz has information regarding how to prepare for a storm.

Things like; make a plan, know where your nearest evacuation centre is, clear gutters and drains, secure lose structures like trampolines or heavy outdoor objects, secure boat moorings, and look after livestock.

People should also have "a grab bag" packed with clothes, medications, phone chargers, cash, copies of important documents and photo ID and other items in case of evacuation. An emergency household plan template can be downloaded here. Once it is finalised it can be printed out for sharing or emailed.
