The run of settled weather continues today with a sunny day ahead and light southerly winds providing another great day for the 2023 Fieldays.

Areas of morning fog or mist will be clearing. Fog was expected again overnight especially for the North Island where it could linger for a fair amount of time this morning before breaking away.

A frosty start this morning for inland areas and the same applies again overnight, especially the inner South Island.

A front is expected to move down from the northwest over the upper North Island on Friday and in behind there is some unstable air.

"This unstable air lingers on Saturday and maybe again on Sunday. The risk isn't high but low to moderate," says a WeatherWatch spokesperson.

"So this brings the chance of few isolated heavy falls with thunderstorms north of Auckland on Friday, perhaps more just for Northland on Friday then including Auckland more on Saturday and Sunday.

"With the front mentioned above there may be some heavy rain as it moves through, more so in areas exposed to the east - eastern Northland, northern Auckland and Great Barrier Island early on Friday morning then Coromandel and Bay of Plenty by midday."
