A weak broad low hovers over the upper North Island today bringing showers, says a WeatherWatch spokesperson.

For those travelling to Fieldays, they may find some rain present around Auckland and Waikato thanks to a front.

"An easterly quarter airflow brings rain to the eastern North Island. Rain or a few drizzle patches push down the South Island's east coast also.

"Northland has showers in the west, sun in the east, showers may become heavy in the afternoon (and spread eastwards) with thunder then easing later."

WeatherWatch says the forecast today is for rain for Auckland, with thunder possible in the north.

Coromandel is also expected to have rain.

"Waikato has rain or showers, especially in the north, it may be drier in southern parts of the region.
