Police are making enquiries following a suspicious car fire in Tauranga early Friday morning.

Fire Emergency NZ services were called to the scene of a fire in Parkvale at around 2.24am on Friday.

"The car fire was near a house," says FENZ Northern Shift Manager Josh Pennefather.

"We responded with a few extra fire trucks as a precaution but the fire was just contained to the car.

"It was suspicious and we notified police."

Police say they attended the car fire on Harrier Street in Parkvale on Friday June 23..

"We are going to be making follow-up enquiries," says a police spokesperson.

"There is no further information at this stage."
