House fire in Ōpōtiki

An investigation is underway following a house fire in the Bay of Plenty overnight.

Multiple fire appliances attended a house fire in Ōpōtiki on Tuesday evening.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand northern fire communications shift manager Hayley Saunders says they were called to the fire at 10.20pm.

'The fire was well involved on arrival and a second alarm was activated.”

A second alarm fire requires more assistance from other stations due to the size of the fire. Some will go to the scene and others will cover the stations involved.

Hayley says a single-storey house was totally involved.

'We had five appliances attend, two from Ōpōtiki, and one each from Ohope, Taneatua and Whakatāne.”
