It's bad news for those in the North Island who have been gritting their teeth over what seems like constant rain, with MetService saying there's more rain forecast through to the weekend.
People are being warned to expect heavy rain and showers through to Saturday as another weather system makes its way across the country.
MetService meteorologist Fulong Lu says the weather system is forecast to travel across the Tasman on Friday which could bring another period of heavy showers and rain to the North Island.
North Island regions such as Auckland, Taranaki, Taupō and Bay of Plenty will bare the brunt of the rainfall with heavy showers forecast to last from Friday through to Saturday.
MetService has issued a number of strong wind watches across the motu, including the Bay of Plenty, with those in the North Island first to feel the breeze on Monday.
MetService forecaster Gerard Bellam says 'strong” gusts of winds will start out in the North Island in the Gisborne area during the course of the middle of the day before making its way south.
He says Aotearoa is in for a 'wintery wake-up call” which will be good news for those who fancied going skiing but otherwise bad news for everyone else.
Aucklanders and those in the Waikato region can expect possibly 'heavy and strong” showers in the afternoon with a high of just 16C for Auckland and 14C for Hamilton and surrounding areas.
The lower North Island such as Wellington would be sheltered from the south-westerly flow, Bellam says, and weather conditions will be 'mainly fine” aside from 'a few” showers in the afternoon. Temperatures are forecast to reach a high of 14C.
