Waipuna Hospice is proudly introducing a new appeal called Shining Stars where people are invited to donate and dedicate a star in memory of a loved one.

Explaining the inspiration behind this appeal, Waipuna Hospice marketing and fundraising director, Sasima Pearce, says this initiative is about honouring and remembering our loved ones.

“Although no longer with us, our loved ones shine brightly in our hearts, just as the stars shine brightly in the night sky, which is why we have chosen stars for this appeal.

"We are inviting anyone who has lost someone special, whether they received our care or not, to donate a shining star, writing a special dedication to their loved one and celebrating the light they have left behind.

"Providing opportunities to remember those we've lost is an integral part of the grief and bereavement journey.

"These moments of remembrance allow us to find solace in the connection we continue to share with our loved ones, ensuring their memory lives on, inspiring us and offering comfort, even in their absence.”

This appeal not only honours the memory of those dear to us but also ensures that future Waipuna Hospice patients and their families find the support they need.

"Last year, Waipuna Hospice provided care for nearly 1,000 patients facing terminal illnesses in Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty. They made over 3,300 contacts with grieving families, offering everything from simple check-in phone calls to counselling sessions for children grappling with the loss of a loved one. Waipuna Hospice stands by these families during their darkest days," says a Waipuna Hospice spokesperson.

Now, they invite the community to remember and celebrate loved ones while making this vital care possible.
