The MetService is forecasting some rain for the week ahead.
"On Tuesday, a front moves over the upper South Island and onto the lower North Island, bringing rain and northwest gales in exposed places," says a MetService spokesperson.
"Later on Tuesday, a second front moves onto the lower South Island, reaching central New Zealand on Wednesday.
"On Thursday, an active front is expected to move onto the South Island, bringing more heavy rain and northwest gales."
On Tuesday there is high confidence that rainfall accumulations will approach warning criteria over northern Westland, Buller, and northwest Nelson, and low confidence over the Tararua Range.There is also moderate confidence of severe northwest gales from Marlborough to Wairarapa, and low confidence over Tararua District and Central Hawke's Bay on Wednesday.
As the second front moves onto the South Island on Tuesday there is low confidence that a rainfall warning could be issued for Fiordland and Westland, rising to moderate on Thursday with the third front. From Southland to Canterbury High Country there is low confidence of severe northwest gales on Tuesday, and again on Thursday with the third front.
