Aside from some lingering bad weather in Coromandel, the western Bay of Plenty and eastern Waikato, the rest of the weekend is looking better weather-wise across the country, a MetService spokesperson says.
Although, Sunday may bring a few showers in the north and south, with showers possible throughout the day in Northland, they are not the thunderstorms that struck Saturday.
In northern Waikato, Coromandel and Auckland, showers are expected in the morning, but should mostly clear by early afternoon.
There may be a few afternoon showers in the Bay of Plenty and eastern Waikato, MetService says.
In the South Island, in the morning, a few showers are expected around the south coast and some parts of coastal Otago, with a few afternoon showers possible in some inland parts of the South Island.
For the Chatham Islands, showers are forecast all day.
For the main centres today, Auckland might see some morning showers, Hamilton may have a little cloud, while Tauranga residents can expect a bit of morning cloud but a fine afternoon, the spokesperson says.
Wellington and Christchurch are both looking good for the second half of the weekend, while Dunedin may have some showers near the Otago Peninsula.
However, any showers that do fall on Sunday are not expected to be as intense as seen in some places on Saturday.
The most intense downpour picked up by MetService’s rain gauges on Saturday was at the Raukūmara trig near East Cape, where rain fell at a rate of more than 50mm per hour for two hours from 2pm on Saturday, the spokesperson says
