People will be donning green for a good cause at the St. Patrick’s Day Races in Tauranga.

Tauranga resident and Wish4Fish founder Bryce Dinneen has organised a fundraiser at the races on Saturday, March 16, to support a woman who suffered a spinal cord injury after falling off a horse.

Rebecca Allum fell off her horse five years ago when a horse bucked and she fell and landed on her neck.

As she lay paralysed on the ground, she knew she had broken her neck. Rebecca had broken C4, C6 and C7.

Her recovery is a long process and there have been times when she has wanted to give up.

Rebecca’s determination to get back on a horse has massively paid off. Five years since her incident, she is an incomplete tetraplegic. She has some mobility and can walk with a stroller. Rebecca is back on her horses and driving her car.

Rebecca will continue to live with her injury for the rest of her life, but that will not hold her back from achieving her dreams.

Rebecca wants to compete in para-equestrian and she needs funds to achieve this dream.

“Rebecca is a friend that lives with a spinal cord injury and she’s trying to do something really amazing, so I rolled my sleeves up to give her a hand,” says Bryce.

“The fundraiser is about lifting her profile and trying to raise a few dollars for her so she can compete in para-equestrian.”

Join the fun-filled Irish-themed race day fundraiser in the Tokyo Lounge at Racing Tauranga.

“With individual tickets or tables(8pax) available, it's time together with your friends, work colleagues and anyone who is looking for a great day out enjoying thoroughbred racing action.

“So if you like a little bit of fancy dress, some Irish-themed food and beverage, trying to back a winner, raffles and giveaways make sure you register to secure your tickets to a great day out on behalf of an incredible lady.”

To find out more, visit the C4 Events & Fundraising Facebook page here and the Facebook event page.

Tickets are $115 per person, drinks are provided on arrival. There will be grazing platters, a St Paddy’s lunch and dessert and a Luck of the Irish lucky draw, along with much more.
