Habitat for Humanity is continuing to support Bay of Plenty whānau to achieve their housing aspirations, with two new rent-to-buy homes recently delivered and a further one under development in Papamoa this year.

Habitat Central Region Chief Executive Nic Greene says Habitat is excited to continue their work across the Bay of Plenty region, supporting whānau with programmes to buy, improve, or rent a place to call home.

“With the support of local organisations, including Bay Trust and Rotorua Trust, we’ve scaled our operations over the past few years, supporting 19 more Bay of Plenty whānau to achieve their housing aspirations.”

Habitat Central Region recently supported whānau in Tauranga, Papamoa, and Rotorua on their journey to home ownership through Habitat’s Progressive Home Ownership programme.

Habitat’s Home Repair programme supports Bay of Plenty whānau to get back on track with their home maintenance through interest-free, affordable loans of up to $20,000 for critical repairs.

Habitat also manages social rental properties at the Kakahoroa papakāinga in Rotorua, providing affordable rental options for whānau.

Following the departure of the entity formerly called “Habitat for Humanity Eastern Bay of Plenty” (now Mahi Pai Foundation) from the Habitat group, Greene has offered assurance that Habitat’s work will continue in the region.

Habitat Central Region works with communities across the Waikato through to Wellington, working towards Habitat’s vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
