There has been a "very mixed weather scenario" for Waihi golfers at the club this week, reports Waihi Golf Club member Rodger Bagshaw.

MONDAY VETS:

In stark contrast to last week’s summer-like conditions, this week was plagued with a cold wind and heavy drizzle patches.

This week the competition was Russian Roulette which brought its share of hilarity.

The winning team was Sarah Tomsett, Mavis Bruce, Kerry Lewis, and Allen Smith, who finished 16 points clear of Wendy Matutinovich, Karen Diggelmann, Peter Hewitt, and Ken Mustard.

In third place were -  the boys - Bruce Rutter, Eddie Ruha, Graeme Jenkins, and Doug Ferguson.

NINE HOLE TUESDAY:

In much improved conditions from the previous day, the Nine Holer’s played a stableford haggle.

It was a battle of the boys at the top as Neil Ritchie and John Twemlow both scored 21 points, while Christine Mercer was next with 19.

Margaret Meldrum, Tukatara Tangiia, and Alison Williams all finished with 18 points.

WEDNESDAY LADIES:

The chilling wind was present again for the ladies' nett medal haggle.

Sarah Tomsett continued her good form from Monday to win with a nett 69, with Avon Gordon coming second with a nett 70.

Next were Jacquie Bain and Annette Hetherington with 73’s. On 73 were Anke Hermannsdorfer, Robyn Kirby, and Edna Connolly.

The Hidden Holes honours were shared between Eda Connolly and Jenny Tubman with each having 8 points.

THURSDAY MEN:

The morning field required two divisions, and in Div One, Francis Gascoigne had the round of the morning with 39 points, with Norm Sanderson next with 37, then Bruce Rutter with 36. Brian Baynes finished with 35.

In Div Two, Doug Ferguson showed the way with 36 points, with Kevin McLoughlin and John Drent next with 35 each.

Tom Rowbotham and Bob Hoggard both had 33, then Vince Jones and Rodger Bagshaw on 32.

In the Afternoon Haggle, it was a battle at the top of the field, with Charles Gurr and Craig Pooley both registering 37 points, but one back on 36 were Damian Dunlop, Greg Bundle, Gary Morrison, and David P. Campbell.

Mark Tomsett and Terry Gerbich both finished with 35 points.

SATURDAY LADIES:

A smaller than usual field due to the weather forecast played a nett medal haggle.

Top spot went to Carol Leary with a nett 74, with Karen Roche just behind with 75.

Desley Rosevear had a nett 50, with Phillipa Harvey and Denise Morgan next with nett 81’s.

The Hidden Holes was a bit of a giggle with Desley Rosevear, Robyn Kirby, Niria Gerbich, and Phillipa Harvey all equal first with 7 points!

SATURDAY MEN:

Despite the impending weather, the Morning Field were fortunate to get through their rounds with only some light drizzle on the final few holes.

The main man of the morning was Don Mackay with 40 points, with Norm Sanderson coming second with 37 points.

Next were Rob Page and Mark Mora with each having 36, while Bryce Bevin had 35.

The Afternoon Field had the worst of the weather with steady drizzle falling, but that didn’t stop Michael Hurley from having a great round with 43 points.

Ian Diver also had a good round with 40 points, while Chris Pilmer and Terry Gerbich both had 38.

Mark Bryant and Murray Butterworth both scored 37 points, while Rex Knight came in with 36.
