Fire emergency services are attending the scene of a large building fire in Eastern Bay of Plenty.
A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson says they received multiple calls at around 1am this morning to a building on fire in the Whakatāne district.
“It is in the suburb of Waiōhau near Kawerau,” says FENZ Northern Shift Manager Garreth Lewis.
“On arrival we found a single-storey building well involved in fire.
“The size of the building is approximately 30 metres by 30 metres.”
The fire is being attended by Edgecumbe, Kawerau, Kaingaroa and Rotorua fire brigades.
“At the peak of the incident we reached a second alarm level with five fire trucks, two water tankers, one command unit and one support vehicle," says Garreth.
“All persons are accounted for.”
FENZ are currently still in attendance.
A fire investigator is also at the scene.
