The Bay of Plenty’s most talented young orchestral musicians will perform in a free concert in Tauranga this month.

‘A Fanfare of Fantasies’ by Youth Philharmonic Tauranga is at St Peters in the City on Saturday, September 14, from 3pm. Admission is free.

The group of musicians, aged 11-19, is led by new music director William McElwee, who travels up from Wellington each week for rehearsals.

“I inherited a great orchestra with an enthusiast group of players,” says William. “I’m really impressed with the quality of the music teachers and schools in the Bay of Plenty and their support of this fantastic young orchestra.”

YPT will play a range of music from movie themes to classical favourites from the greatest composers.

“YPT is a skilled group who put a lot of their own time into honing their musical talent,” says William. “I’m thrilled to be working with them and for the audience to enjoy their music.”
