Police can confirm one person has died following a crash in the Bay of Plenty.

Emergency services were called to a single vehicle crash on Grieve Rd in Otakiri around 9.15am, a police media statement said.

"One person was located deceased at the scene.

"The road remains closed and enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing."

The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.

The road is closed and diversions are in place at the intersection of Grieve and Powell Rd and the top of Grieve Rd.

Motorists are advised to take an alternate route.
