Time for a tunnel!

Posted on 17-01-2025 12:25 | By jed

Two roads to Auckland, Kaimais or via Waihi. Critical injuries in Waihi crash last night, critical crash on the other route via the Kaimais this morning, 15km road jams into Tauranga on SH2 , 6000 more cars on this road per day compared to just a short time ago.

It is about time the government does their job and build a tunnel through the Kaimais with the longer term goal of linking this to the Waikato expressway.

Tunnels are not overly costly, Iceland has constructed 14 such tunnels, and their population is 400,000. We should be more than capable of doing what Iceland have done.
