The country’s first national padel tournament series will start in Tauranga from April 11-13 at The Padel Club NZ.
The Padel New Zealand Tour will bring together padel enthusiasts, competitive players, and newcomers for an action-packed weekend of exciting matchups.
With men’s and women’s divisions across A and B grades, the tournament is designed to welcome players of all levels while contributing to the Padel NZ national ranking system.
“Padel is one of the world’s fastest-growing sports, and we’re thrilled to be launching New Zealand’s first national tour,” said Padel New Zealand president Wictoria Markula.
“This event is an incredible opportunity for players to compete, connect with the padel community, and be part of the sport’s growth in New Zealand.”
Players will compete for prizes, national ranking points, and the chance to establish themselves in the growing NZ padel scene.
The three-day tournament will feature high-energy matches, social warm up games on Friday, and community engagement activities.
Why Padel?
Padel, one of the world’s fastest growing sports with 30 million players worldwide, is a fast-paced, social racquet sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, played on an enclosed court with glass walls. It has gained international popularity due to its accessibility, fun nature, and growing competitive scene.

I fail to see how it is more "accessible" than squash or tennis, seemingly combining aspects of both without offering anything new. However I suspect equipment suppliers like Rebel Sports will be highly enthusiastic.
