Ōtūmoetai residents are encouraged to come together and celebrate nature at Ōtūmoetai Primary School on Sunday, April 6.

The Envirohub-run event, running from 11am to 2pm, aims to inspire local homeowners to transform their backyards into thriving, sustainable spaces for wildlife.

This initiative, known as 'Space for Nature', is a grassroots project designed to help people create eco-friendly habitats, protect local wildlife from predators and pets, and foster connections between neighbourhoods and nearby reserves.

“Whether you have a large garden or a small balcony, everyone can make a difference,” an Envirohub spokesperson said.

The event will show how every backyard can make a difference in supporting biodiversity.

Those attending will have the opportunity to sign up for the free "Space for Nature" program, which offers advice and support on protecting biodiversity in their own backyards, access to free workshops, and a complimentary native plant.

The event will also feature fun activities for children and a sausage sizzle, providing a chance for families to learn and connect with their community.
