Get ready for a hopping good Easter with Binky, the giant Easter egg bunny, at Katikati Bird Gardens.
Katikati Bird Gardens is putting on its 21st annual great Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday.
Binky, known for his oversized ears and cheeky grin, will be scampering around the 4ha gardens spreading joy and excitement for children. The bunny will be available for photos too.
Dozens of coloured balls will be hidden throughout the gardens and the idea is for kids to head out and find one, return it to the cafe and swap it for a chocolate Easter bunny egg.
Several pink rabbits, too, are in the gardens for children to count and those who have counted correctly go into a draw for a giant chocolate bunny egg.
Gardens owner Scott Robertson said the Easter egg hunt was a tradition in Katikati and more than 300 children turned up.
“The event is all about our local families coming along to have a great Easter and enjoy themselves.”
Several bird gardens staff plus Katikati College Leos will be there to help.
The event starts at noon, but Robertson encourages people to come earlier to avoid the queues at lunchtime – the gardens open from 10am.
