Emergency services are responding to a vegetation fire at Matatā in the eastern Bay of Plenty.

Fire crews from Edgecumbe, Eastern Bay and Matata are attending, according to a FIre and Emergency northern shift manager.

"We also have one helicopter working there at the moment."

The size of the vegetation fire is unknown at this stage.

The fire was reported to Fire and Emergency New Zealand at 11.49am.
