It doesn't take a genius to figure out it's cold in the Bay of Plenty, with a number of roads in the region caked in ice this morning.

While it's expected to get warmer as the day goes on, Tauranga can expect a high of just 13C with light winds with the overnight low dropping to a chilly 5C.

Although this will mean it's a little bit warmer than last night, it will signal a change in the weather with the MetService forecasting a few early showers for Tauranga.

But it's not all doom and gloom there will be fine spells developing with light winds. Monday's high is an expected 16C and an overnight low of 7C.
