Stop/go traffic management is in place on Maleme St, Greerton, following a water main break.

Tauranga City Council said there was a “major water main break that caused some discolouration in the water supply”.

“The discolouration is due to iron and manganese particles being stirred up by the sudden change in water flow when the main broke,” Council said.

The break was reported around 5pm on Monday.

Affected areas by the water main break included properties from Greerton through to the CBD.

Council said the water was safe to drink but if discolouration continued, people were advised to flush their outside tap for 10 minutes.

If there was no improvement, people could contact the council on 07 577 7000.

Council said water was restored early this morning.

“There is currently a stop/go traffic management in place on Maleme St.”
