Police are investigating the cause of a serious crash in near Hamilton last night.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash on Gordonton Road, State Highway 18, about 8pm.

Two vehicles were involved and one person has been taken to hospital in a serious condition says a police media statement.

Part of Gordonton Road was blocked due to the crash. The road was open to traffic about 11pm.

No details of what may have caused the crash were released at the time of the media release and investigations are continuing.
