SH25 truck solution

SH 25 south of Coromandel is expected to re-open to all traffic on Monday, after being closed to trucks since August 10.

A slip below the road reduced traffic to one land and prevented its use by trucks altogether.

SH25 south of Coromandel is expected to re-open to all traffic on Monday.

NZ Transport Agency contractors have started a complex operation which will allow heavy vehicles to use an area affected by a slip below the road.

Trucks have been unable to reach Coromandel on SH25 since the slip because of the unstable nature of the site.

After the road re-opens, motorists can expect delays of up to ten minutes while the excavation work is taking place. Drivers will be stopped during parts of the operation and traffic flows will be monitored to lessen the impact on motorists.

Once the work is finished all traffic will be able to use the road which will continue to operate as one-lane with signals controlling traffic, until the permanent solution can be constructed.

The Transport Agency appreciates the patience of road users, particularly freight operators and their clients who have been affected by the detour.

Work is continuing with geo-technical engineers to find a permanent solution for the site. More information on this is expected next week.
