The newly upgraded Williamson Park will be ready for pedestrians and vehicles by this weekend, says the Thames-Coromandel District Council.
The upgrade of the park has included a boardwalk constructed along the beachfront, refurbished toilets and realignment of the road, while car parking at the park has now been formalised.
A TCDC spokesperson says contractors are now carrying out the finishing touches and once the upgrade is complete the park will be better suited to hosting big events like the Beach Hop.
'In addition, many of the old pine trees that were reaching the end of their life span and dropping branches have been removed. In their place, native trees suited to the coastal environment have been planted to provide shade.
'We're delaying a celebratory opening of the park because storms in September and October prevented grass growth, but the much-loved seaside reserve is ready to use.”
