Motorists are being warned of big potholes on State Highway 29 in the Kaimai Ranges, following this week's bad weather.
A SunLive caller says that the potholes are opposite McLaren Falls Road and about six cars have already pulled over in a row to change their punctured tyres.
Another caller who works in the area says they're the biggest she's ever seen and that it's a dangerous spot for motorists.
"They must have got bigger, due to the rain over night and drivers are having to be very cautious to avoid them on the road."
She says police have been called and are on their way.

That stetch of road was only constructed a few years ago, how come it is already falling apart?

We drive back from Hamilton and were at the McLaren Falls turnoff at approximately 2.30 pm. We were nearly rear-ended in the traffic that had slowed dramatically, with at least seven cars stopped, one being loaded onto a Rowe Motors salvage truck, and followed another Rowe Motors salvage truck with a campervan on it from there to Malene Street (where their base is). There were cars at every layby from McLaren Falls to the power station beside the Wairoa River, with people changing tyres at each of them! We commented all the way about the pot holes being huge (in fact from just off the Rotorua-Hamilton highway, through the Hinuera Valley there seemed to be very poorly maintained roads, with large cracks & potholes in the road surface), & the sight of multiple motorists changing tyres was very unusual in misty, rainy conditions.
Too long?
