Police can now confirm name of the man killed in a single car crash on State Highway 36 near Pyes Pa on Tuesday.

He is 30-year-old Michael Douglas O'Brien from Tauranga.

Michael died earlier this week when his car hit a tree between Williams Road and Taumata Road.

Police say their thoughts are with his family at this time.

The Serious Crash Unit investigation continues.
