Update, 4pm: Power has been restored to thousands of properties near Te Puke and Maketu following a vehicle striking a power pole on Sunday morning.
The outage occurred at 7.56am and was affecting 3344 properties at Maketu and Paengaroa and another 151 properties at Te Puke.
There were no reported injuries from the crash, but powerlines were hanging across the road, requiring the power company to attend the scene and restore power.
Update, 12pm: A power cut is still ongoing affecting thousands of properties near Te Puke and Maketu when a vehicle struck a pole on Sunday morning.
The outage occurred at 7.56am and is affecting 3344 properties at Maketu and Paengaroa and another 151 properties at Te Puke.
Power is expected to be restored by 6pm.
Update, 9.15am: A single vehicle crash in Rangiuru has resulted in a power cut in the area.
"At around 8am Police received a report of a crash involving a single vehicle on Huse Lane, Rangiuru," says a police spokesperson.
There are no injuries reported.
"The powerline is reportedly hanging over the road," says a police spokesperson.
"The power company has been contacted.
"Motorists are advised to avoid the area while the powerline is repaired."
Earlier, 8.15am: Emergency services are responding to the scene of a vehicle crash in Rangiuru where a car has hit a powerpole.
"[A] car crash just now on Rangiuru Road near the 45km sign bend, power lines all over the road," says a SunLive reader.
It is unknown at this stage whether there are any injuries.
Thousands of properties around the Te Puke area have had a power cut.
Across Paengaroa, 3657 properties have had an outage, and there are 310 properties without power in Rangiuru.
The outage occurred at 7.56am.
PowerCo advise that a site investigation is underway. Power is expected to be restored by 12pm.
