Settled weather ahead for Wednesday

Thanks to high pressure, the weather will be mainly settled today, says a WeatherWatch weather forecaster.

"There is some cloud about the lower South Island, and showers for Fiordland."

It's a cold start in the Bay of Plenty, Northland, Auckland, and Waikato, with a sunny day ahead. Light winds are expected to tend southwest in the afternoon, with temperature highs today of 17 - 19 degrees Celsius for these four regions.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mainly sunny after a frosty start, Kapiti may have some cloud. Light winds tend onshore in the afternoon.
Highs: 14 – 15

Eastern North Island
Sunny, morning cloud Napier northwards clears. Light winds tend east to northeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 16 – 18

Wellington
A mix of sun and cloud with breezy northerlies.
Highs: 14 – 15

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny and warm with north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 17 – 23

Canterbury
Mostly sunny with a touch of high cloud, north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 18 – 23

West Coast
Mostly sunny with a touch of high cloud, mid level cloud for Fiordland with a few showers.
Highs: 15 – 19

Southland & Otago
A mix of mid and high level cloud, north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 20 – 22
