Kiwis across the country are waking up to a chilly morning, but don’t worry - the warmer days are coming back.
The cold night is to be followed by a few warmer and finer days, as the unsettled and stormy weather that’s been plaguing the country eases rapidly.
Meteorologist Mark Todd says autumn weather is well and truly here.
First thing in the morning on Wednesday, he says the southern North Island saw temperatures in single digits and the further south you went, the colder it got.
Some of the South Island would see temperatures in low single digits. Cromwell would be 3C, with Alexandra seeing 4C and Queenstown locals also getting a chilly 3C.
“Fortunately, the rain is clearing out,” Todd says.
Some people, especially in the south and east, would see a few showers but then high pressure was expected to build throughout the day. This meant clear and settled weather was on the horizon - but just for a few days.
Auckland is expected to reach a high of 21C on Wednesday, with a low of 12C, and Wellington would hit a maximum of 17C and a low of 11C.
In Christchurch, the high temperature is 18C and there would be a low of 9C. Dunedin is looking at a high of 19C and a low of 10C.
There was a front expected to hit parts of the South Island on Thursday, which would bring rain, but that weakened as it moved north.
“Nothing too dramatic,” Todd says.
That would be reasonably short lived, with more high pressure bringing that settled and clear weather back.
