Weekend newsfeed: Settled, but windy weather

More autumn-type weather is expected this weekend.

Some rain, if any, is possible for some regions in New Zealand this weekend.

In its latest weather update, WeatherWatch.co.nz says a weak low pressure zone will deepen a little over the NZ side of the Tasman Sea on Friday before moving in later in the day and overnight to the north western corner of the South Island and the western side of the North Island by Saturday.

"Rainfall on Saturday isn't much for most places but cloudy and showery weather may linger for some as this slow weak system falls apart.

'These borderline systems can be frustrating to forecast as the wet weather is broken up and slow moving... meaning some areas can be drier than you expected for longer, whilst other areas nearby are wetter.

"Use our rain forecast graphs in our new App or at RuraWeather.co.nz to get the general idea of rainfall totals and timing...but on the day use the rain radar too to get a better understanding of the shape and look of the rain bands.

"Sunday is generally settled thanks to high pressure surrounding much of NZ but westerlies kick in for southern NZ later on and then slide northwards for the start of next week, which may be windy for many regions for a few days (thanks to a storm in the Southern ocean) - before more high pressure from Australia comes in later next week.

"Wind and rain warnings may be possible early next week."
