UPDATE: One person is in a critical condition following an incident on Mauao today.

Emergency services were called to a popular walking track on Mauao at 10.46am.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson says the patient is currently being transported to Tauranga Hospital by helicopter in a critical condition.

A police spokesperson says it looks to have been be a medical incident.

EARLIER:

Emergency services are responding to an incident near the Mauao summit at Mount Maunganui.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson says they were notified of the incident at 10.46am.

"We are currently on scene with one ambulance and two rapid response vehicles.

"A helicopter has just arrived."
