The Easter weekend is delighting many with mostly sunny weather so far, although there's a southerly nip in the air.
On Easter Sunday a low pressure system to the east of Gisborne/Tairawhiti is expected to move away to the northeast of the North Island during the day.
A ridge of high pressure is forecast to cover the South Island on Sunday.
"There is low confidence for warning amounts of rain in parts of Gisborne/Tairawhiti and the Wairoa District during the morning, and low confidence that severe southerly gales could affect eastern Bay of Plenty during the same time," says a MetService spokesperson.
On Monday April 1, a ridge of high pressure is expected to cover New Zealand.
On Tuesday, this ridge of high pressure will become confined to the North Island, while a north to northwest flow develops over the South Island.
The ridge of high pressure moves to the east of the North Island on Wednesday, April 3. A trough of low pressure over the Tasman Sea will be moving eastwards to reach the southwest of the South Island during the latter part of the day.
The trough is expected to bring rain and strengthening northwest winds to parts of the south of the South Island, but the need for a warning for either is looking unlikely at this stage.
