The first week of the school holidays looks to have fairly fine weather for the week ahead with some cloudy days, and a few showers expected later in the week.

With plenty to do around the Bay of Plenty, people can expect to head outdoors enjoying daytime highs of up to 22 degrees Celsius.

MetService is forecasting a westerly flow which will develop over New Zealand by Tuesday, with an embedded weak front forecast to move onto the South Island.

This westerly flow is expected to remain over New Zealand during Wednesday, with the embedded weak front over the northern South Island expected to move onto the North Island.

For the Bay of Plenty, the weather is expected to be fine with westerlies until Wednesday, when clouds and a few showers are due to develop.

The west to northwest flow will continue to affect New Zealand on Thursday, with minimal risk of severe weather.

On Friday, a front is expected to move northwards across the South Island, bringing a period of heavy rain to western regions.

A few showers with westerlies are forecast for the Bay of Plenty on Thursday and Friday.

There is low confidence of rainfall reaching warning criteria over Fiordland and the ranges of the Westland District.
