The good weather has continued at Waihi Gold Club this week, says club member Rodger Bagshaw.

The week's competitions has also seen the Waihi Vets Pennant Team earn the right to vie for the Waikato title.

VET’S PENNANTS:

The final round was played on the Paeroa course, and the great news is that the Waihi Quartz Team managed to retain their lead and have won the Waikato Zone Three Title.

In a final that saw several changes of position, the Quartz finished seven shots ahead of Tahuna 2. The Waihi Nuggets finished in fith place, and the Ingots in eighth. The Quartz now go on to play the Waikato Final.

MONDAY VETS:

A different competition this week where players were only permitted to have four clubs in their bags.

By the scoring it seems we all cart too many clubs around at all other times! Eddie Bruce proved this fact by having 39 points, to lead Judy Saunders and Edna Connolly who both had 38.

Next were Jill Morrison and Di Lewis on 37, then Ross Fitness with 36. Both Helen and Brian Baynes each scored a hole in two.

NINE HOLE GOLF:

There was a good field with good scoring for this week’s nett haggle.

First was Michelle Bonnici with a fine 29 nett, followed by Jill Mason on 32. Next was John Vautier and Jillian Dell both with 33, while on 34 nett were Curtiss Osbourne, Glen Bennett, Jill Morrison, and Eleanor Koedyk. Tina Berg and Christine Mercer had 35.

WEDNESDAY LADIES:

Similar to the Vets on Monday the ladies played a 5 club challenge this week.

Those showing they do not need all their clubs the most were Michelle Libby and Adrienne Lynch who both scored 38 points.

Next was Adele Gunning with 34, then Rosalind Giffney with 33. The Hidden Holes were shared between Adrienne Lynch, Denise McConnon, and Adele Gunning with 7 points each. The “Dreamers Player of the Week” was Viv Lilley for her 68 nett.

THURSDAY MEN:

There were two divisions in the morning haggle, and in Div One, Allen Smith played to his age for a great 41 points.

Next were Alex Standfield and John Giffney on 39, with Ken Mustard on 38, and Brian Robinson 36. In Div Two, Pete Rowe repeated his previous weeks effort with another 41 points, while Stephen Bailey and Jim Evans were both on 37, and Tom Rowbotham 36.

In the Afternoon Haggle, Mark Bryant and David P. Campbell vied for top honours with both having 39 points.

They were closely followed by Alistair Cochrane, Mark Hume, and Mike Matutinovich all on 38, with Greg Bundle, Wilson McGillivray, and Jonathan Clare with 37 points.

SATURDAY LADIES:

As the Wednesday ladies did, the competition of the day was a five-Club challenge. Again, it proved that most of us carry around more clubs than we need!

Phillipa Harvey had the best result with 40 points, with Sally Grindlay next with 39. Michelle Libby again had 38 points as she did on Wednesday, with Liz Hale next on 37.

The Hidden Hole was shared by Liz Hale and Phillipa Harvey with 9 points each.

SATURDAY MEN:

It was the perfect day weatherwise for golf, but a heavy dew made it a bit difficult for the Morning Haggle until it dried off.

Top of the morning field were John Giffney (Mr Steady), and Sam Gurney who both scored 39 points, while Richard Taitoko, Allen Smith, and Peter Wright all had 38 points. Jim Powell and Ken Mustard both had 37. Twos were recorded by Allen Smith, Doug Ferguson, and Allen Sarjant.

In the Afternoon Haggle, Howard Anderson and Brian Roche enjoyed the conditions to be on top with 38 points.

Next was Andy Roche with 37, while Charles Gurr, Craig Sandlant, Alistair Cochrane, and Chris Pilmer all finished with 36 points. David P. Campbell and Terry Gerbich both scored twos.
