Bella and family shine in adaptive swimming

Tauranga Artistic Swimming Club’s adaptive programme offers inclusive opportunities for swimmers with diverse abilities to thrive and enjoy artistic swimming.

Bella Claydon is one such swimmer who is thrilled to return to artistic swimming in 2025, joining her family at Tauranga Artistic Swimming Club.

The programme at Baywave Lap Pool runs on Saturdays from 9am to 10am during school terms, offering participants a chance to improve fitness, flexibility and coordination through choreographed routines set to music.

She’s part of the Adaptive Artistic Swimming class, designed for swimmers with physical, intellectual or neurodiverse conditions.

This inclusive programme offers a tailored approach, helping participants develop flexibility, fitness, and coordination through routines set to music.

The programme welcomes swimmers comfortable in deep water and confident in putting their heads underwater, providing a safe, fun space to thrive.

Six years ago, Bella (15) and her two siblings, Lucy (15) and Evander (22), joined the club, diving into the world of artistic swimming, training, and competing.

Last year, inspired by her children, their mother, Lorna, joined the masters’ class as a beginner, showcasing the club’s family-oriented and inclusive culture.

New members are encouraged to join the Adaptive Artistic Swimming team. The first class is free.

It’s a chance to discover the joy of artistic swimming and connect with a welcoming community.

The cost is $150 per term. Baywave entry may apply. Eligibility for free entry passes is available.

The head coach and organisers encourage anyone interested to register on their website, taurangaartisticswimming.co.nz, and join a welcoming community that celebrates swimmers of all abilities.
