A Mongrel Mob member and another man have been arrested following the death of a man on Church Street, Ōpōtiki, on Saturday morning.
A 31-year-old patched Mongrel Mob member was arrested last night and charged with murder.
He appeared in court this morning and has been remanded in custody.
His next court appearance is scheduled for 26 February at the Tauranga District Court.
A second man, aged 25, was also arrested on Sunday afternoon and charged with assault.
He is set to reappear in the Whakatāne District Court on 12 February.
Police have confirmed they are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.
Additional police resources from across the Bay of Plenty District have been deployed to Ōpōtiki since Saturday to assist with the investigation and provide reassurance to the community.
Authorities have urged the public to come forward with any information that may assist their inquiries.
Police continue to work closely with the Ōpōtiki community to maintain public safety following the tragic incident.
