A lane closure will mean traffic will be diverted as motorists come to Tauranga from Bethlehem or Tauriko.

NZTA said the off-ramp from SH29/Takitimu Drive Toll Rd on to SH2/15th Ave will be closed from tomorrow through to late-April 2026 to progress road widening in the area.

“The work was scheduled to begin on January 18, but was postponed as a result of the weather,’ NZTA said in a statement.

“For the duration of the works, traffic will be switched onto temporary lanes allowing SH29 and SH2 traffic to travel northbound onto SH2 Takitimu Dr, however traffic from SH29 to 15th Ave will be detoured via SH2 Takitimu Dr to Elizabeth St.

“SH2 traffic will still be able to travel to 15th Ave.”

NZTA said the diversion is to allow construction of new lanes as part of the Takitimu North link project.

“Please follow the temporary speed limit signs and directions for these layout changes.

“Drive to the conditions and adhere to the temporary traffic management in place.”
