The first two Mount Maunganui victims have been formally identified by the coroner as Max Furse-Kee, who would have turned 16 yesterday – and Måns Loke Bernhardsson, a 20-year-old Swedish tourist.

The recovery operation in Mount Maunganui resumed yesterday afternoon after earlier being suspended. Experts assessed the area was safe to enter and resume operations.

Police say recovery teams are making good progress, but still have days of work ahead.

A morning vigil was held at Pilot Bay to mark one week since the tragedy

Another was held at Coronation Park at 7pm.

The photos below were captured by Cameron Avery and show the community coming together at Coronation Park.
