With summer almost on our doorsteps many people might be considering installing swimming pools or spas on their properties.
But did you know that if your pool is capable of holding a depth of 400mm of water that it will need to be fenced?
All swimming, spa and portable pools deeper than 400mm by law require fencing.
The Thames Coromandel District Council is reminding all residents that pool fencing must comply with the Fencing of Swimming Pools Act.
This means all gates and doors must open away from the pool, be self-closing and self-latching.
Only pools 1.2m high without climbable ladders are considered exempt. Spa pools with self-locking lids require a special exemption from Council.
Some retailers believe spa pools with self-locking lids to be exempt but this is incorrect.
To talk to someone about any plans for pool installations or buildings call the TCDC customer service team on 868-0200.
